In our hectic fast-paced world it is both more urgent that we make prayer a priority and also more difficult.

There are two types of prayer that God calls us to develop in our lives.

1)RETREAT PRAYER: Retreat prayer is what Jesus talked about when he taught his disciples to "go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father who is unseen. Then your Father who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." It is pulling away from work, pulling away from family and friends and getting one-on-one with God. Jesus practiced this kind of prayer when he went into the wilderness to fast and pray for 40 days. The Bible also tells us that one night he went hiking up a mountain and spent the night praying to God. We must take time to do these sorts of things. 

2)REALITY PRAYER: Reality prayer is short small and quick prayers throughout your day at work and at home. This is prayer in the midst of deadlines, dirty dishes and dirty diapers. They are short sweet, to the point, often silent prayers. Some examples of these from scripture include Samuel's prayer, "Speak Lord for your servant is listening." The tax collector's prayer, "Have mercy on me O God a sinner." and Jesus' spontaneous prayer, "I thank you Father that you have hidden these things from the wise and learned and revealed them to little children."
